  • Introduction:
The study in the Department of Geology at Mansoura started at 1969 as a branch of Cairo University, then as part of the Faculty of Science of Mansoura University in 1973. The diverse scientific and research fields in the department are sedimentology & sedimentary rocks; palaeontology & stratigraphy, petroleum geology & hydrogeology; petrology, mineralogy & ore deposits; applied geophysics and environmental geology. The geology of the Nile Delta always has the priority in the research plans of the department as Mansoura is located in the mid-eastern part of the Nile Delta. Subsurface information, stratigraphic classification, sedimentological characteristics, structures and economic potentials have been of special interest to the teaching staff members. Moreover, the present environmental hazards threatening modern sector of the Nile Delta as marine erosion, salanization, soil degradation, neo-tectonism as seismic events and subsidence are subjects that deserved keen studies in the Geology Department of Mansoura University. On these subjects and related aspects, the Geology Department at Mansoura holds many activities including conferences, workshops, training courses and symposiums. The department staffs have a good credit regarding scientific publications in international and local journal
  • The Department's Mission :
The Department of Geology at Mansoura aims to provide excellence in its specialist B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in order to prepare students for careers in academia, industry, government, and/or teaching. The department will develop in each student, critical thinking, enthusiasm, initiative and the necessary skills to become lifelong students of earth and related sciences. The undergraduate programs in Geological Science provide a solid foundation in the Earth Sciences and, because of our strategic location in the Nile Delta and close to the Sinai Peninsula and the Eastern Desert, provide special opportunities for field-based learning. The graduate programs provide unparalleled opportunities for field, laboratory, and theoretical research in the different subjects of Geological Sciences. Emphasis will be placed on learning basic concepts and techniques through research, in an environment that promotes the development of professionals with social, cultural and humanistic sensibility as well as profound ethical values. In this way, the department will contribute to the enrichment of science and society through the creation and dissemination of new knowledge through scientific research.
  • Department Goals:
1- Preparing and educating students in pre-professional programs for entry in the field of geology recreation through a planned and systematic undergraduate major curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Geological and Geophysical Science degrees.
2- Recruit and retain high quality faculty members with interests in the geological science areas.
3- Establish a new paradigm for geological education that emphasizes interdisciplinary/track/education programs.
4- Increase interaction and collaboration with industry
  • Educational Objectives
1- To educate students in the application of geological, mathematical, physical, and geophysical principles for solving geological and geophysical problems (outcomes).
2- To develop students’ professional skills that enables a successful career (outcomes).
3- To provide students with the broad education necessary to practice geology and geophysics in a global and societal context (outcomes
