The Chemistry and criminal evidence program

The Chemistry and criminal evidence program is one of the most recent qualitative programs offered by the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Mansoura University. It is a unique program in the governorates of Central, East and West Delta and all Egyptian universities. Criminal science is the application of chemistry to the legal system. Therefore, it uses principles, facts, and laboratory techniques in the fields of chemistry, biology, physics, and earth sciences to process crime scene evidence.

The field of criminal chemistry is not limited to the security role, but rather extends it to public awareness of the dangers and problems of unsafe handling of chemicals that surround us. Criminal chemistry is divided into the chemistry of examining documents, the chemistry of poisons and drugs, the chemistry of examining threads, fires, projectiles, bullets and explosives, the chemistry of examining fingerprints, the chemistry of forensic measurement and calibration. Also, criminal chemistry is usually associated with crime scene analysis and has many applications in various criminal sciences in the field of counterfeiting and forgery. Mansoura University awards a Bachelor's degree in chemistry and criminal evidence after the student has completed 136 credit hours over 4 years. The program accepts students who have obtained a general secondary certificate (science and mathematics divisions), and the first graduates of the program are also included in the plan to appoint demonstrators.

Why the Chemistry and Criminal Program?

The program aims to prepare a distinguished graduate with the necessary skills to keep pace with progress in investing modern technology in linking basic sciences with criminal evidence, and a graduate qualified to compete in the local and regional labor market and capable of producing advanced scientific research to serve the community. The program also establishes this knowledge framework on legal and ethical foundations that are consistent with proper professional dealing with various sources of information.
