 Believing in the importance of the postgraduate studies and scientific research sector as one of the most important pillars for societies development and an indication of their both scientific and academic achievement and an important factor in the development of production due to its direct contact with development plans in developed countries. Hence, the faculty of science, since its inception in 1969, has given all the care and attention to developing scientific research in various branches of basic sciences at the national, Arab and international levels. Therefore, the faculty of Science has prepared its scientific research plan from (2022-2024) titled “A step towards development and excellence in scientific research.” The annual statistics reveals the extent of our progress in the scientific research based on the number of research published in distinguished international journals. At the same time, Our faculty take care of postgraduate studies (diploma - masters - doctorate) in the various basic sciences, in addition to a number of research schools to make a best use of the available human resources. The current strategic plan of the college's scientific research reflects a clear future vision of the college.

  The decision of establishing the Faculty of Science came within the framework of the country’s interest in the scientific sector and support for its research institutions to keep pace with the rapid development in the country and to meet the increase in the delta population, which requires education, training and rehabilitation of local scientific cadres capable of meeting both of educational and scientific requirements in the region. The Faculty of Science was established in 1969 including six academic departments: Chemistry - Physics - Mathematics - Zoology - Botany and Geology. The duration of study is four years, and it grants a bachelor’s degree in the basic science specializations, moreover the college grants a master’s degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in the various basic sciences. The faculty aims to prepare qualified graduates to work in both public and private sectors, pay attention to postgraduate studies, encourage scientific research, work on environmental development and serve the community.
