Micro-analysis unit
Introduction:
The unit aims to conduct accurate analysis of the various materials provided by researchers from inside or outside the university and to conduct scientific research of an academic and applied nature as well as to contribute to the training of students and individuals from inside and outside the university and aid productive activity in modern scientific and technical methods and raise their productive efficiency.
The unit was established by the decision of the University Council by approval in 1981/1/30 and the bylaw was adopted in the University Council on 1987/11/9.
Vision:
The Micro-Analysis Unit of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector in the Department of Chemistry - Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, aspires to be one of the best units of a special nature at the university level.
Message:
The Micro-Analysis Unit seeks to provide a distinguished competitive service in the field of chemical and research analysis and the production of industrial detergents to benefit civil society and the educational and research process at the college.
The Unit’s objectives and areas:
- Conduct scientific research of an academic and applied nature that serves the community and works to solve environmental problems by distinguished researchers from inside or outside the university.
- Conducting accurate analysis of the various materials provided by researchers from inside or outside the university.
- Contribute to the education and training of students of different college departments and research students in the use of modern scientific and technical methods. No, in his field.
- To help the productive activity that leads to the creation and development of new methods that result in improving the abundance and multiplicity of production.
- Use modern scientific and technical methods to train community members and raise their productive efficiency in their field of competence.
- Carrying out production work for others in its field of competence.
- Implementation of the projects entrusted in its field of competence for the account of others or inside and outside the university.
Micro-analysis unit laboratories:
The unit includes several specialized laboratories that contain the latest scientific devices, including:
- Environmental Analysis Laboratory.
- Atomic absorption laboratory.
- Thermal Analysis Laboratory.
- Spectroscopy Laboratory.
- Liquid soap and industrial detergent production plant.
Environmental analysis Lab:
- The laboratory conducts all environmental analysis, whether it is soil, water, or air analyses in addition to liquid soap and to know the extent to which it conforms to Egyptian standards.
- Examples of environmental analysis provided by the laboratory include: (Total dissolved salts, TDS - Sulphates - Chlorides – Nitrates – Phosphates – pH – Chemical Oxygen Demand, COD – Biological Oxygen Demand, BOD)
Some of the community organizations that are dealt with:
- Swimming pool in the Olympic Village of the University to determine the type of water and the extent to which it conforms to Egyptian standards.
- Perfume Nectar Company for the analysis of alcohol used in the preparation of perfumes.
- Delta Construction Chemics to analyze a cement sample and see if it conforms to standard specifications.
- Center for Ophthalmology and Surgery to determine the quality of bovidone.
- Hassan Allam Company for the analysis of a sample of concrete water.
Atomic absorption Lab:
- The atomic absorption device is used to focus all elements of the modern periodic table such as (Copper Cu - Nickel Ni - Iron Fe - Lead Pb - Chromium Cr - Cadmium Cd - Zinc Zn - Sodium Na - Potassium K - Callisum Ca - Magnisum Mg ) Using the latest modern technologies because of its high capacity and efficiency in measuring microfocus (ppm) in various water samples, industrial, food and high accuracy pollution treatment (repeated measurement more than once to ensure accurate results) as it works with the modern programmed system without any interference.
- One of its most important applications is to determine the validity of water (drinking - sewage - irrigation - construction) and to conform to Egyptian standard specifications. It is also used to determine the effect of toxic elements on different samples such as (blood- soil - food - building materials (cement - concrete) and has an important role in various scientific research.
Some of the entities that are dealt with:
- Best Egyptian Canned Goods Company
- Gasco Natural Gases Company
- Dakahlia Sugar Company
- International Chemical Industries Company
- Nephrology and Urology Hospital at Mansoura University
- Poison Center at Mansoura Medical College).

Thermal analysis Lab:
The laboratory analyzes thermal weight (TGA), differential thermal (DTA) and detailed analysis of solids (DSC) and is used in:
- Set evaporation temperature, transcendence, fusion, and crystallization
- Study of reactions to water loss or solvents from solids
- Study of behavior and thermal cracking of different materials
- One of his most important features is:
- Set the remaining part of the material after heating
- Study of thermal dissolvers of materials
- Many applications in the fields (medical - pharmaceutical - plastic - resins - tissue - thermal materials - pigments).

Spectral analysis Lab:
The lab contains "more than one device such as:
- Electronic Spectra: The device works in the areas of visible light and ultraviolet radiation in the medium (190-1100) nanometers, where it can identify wavelengths absorbed by different materials, whether solid or liquid.
PG UV/Vis spectrometer T80+
- Infrared Spectra: The device works in the infrared zone in the medium (400-4000) nm, where it can identify the functional groups of different organic and inorganic compounds whether the vehicles are solid or liquid.
Thermo Scientific IS-10
- Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectra: The chromatography device uses gas to separate and identify volatile organic mixtures by estimating their molecular weight. The device can also estimate the molecular weight of different organic compounds directly (Direct Insertion Prop) as the device has a library of different organic compound spectra to identify the compounds in the sample.
