Fields of Research and Research Groups

The department has about 90 faculty members performing theoretical and experimental research in both fundamental areas such as Particle Physics, Plasma Physics and Nuclear Physics, and in Applied Areas such as Optics, Solar Energy, Biophysics, Radiation Heat Transfer, Metal physics, Glass and Polymeric materials. Moreover, some members working in a very advanced research topics like Fractals and Critical Phenomena and Nonlinear Dynamical Systems.

Although there is no a well know ranking scheme for the Physics Departments in our country, one can easily and safely recognize the physics department in Mansoura University among the top four physics departments in Egypt. What can support this concluding remark is the number of award obtained by the staff members since it is founded in 1969 as well as the annual publications of the Department members.

Besides the yearly appointment for the best students to be the future members of the department after getting their Ph D’s, the department offers research and teaching assistantships. Our graduates always find a position somewhere in the academic institutes and Industry that reflects the good repetition the department has.

Vision

The Department of Physics aspires to the highest standards of excellence in all aspects of teaching, research, and service the society. Teaching of physics courses to science majors, and non-science majors will be of the highest quality. Research conducted by faculty and students will be of importance nationally and internationally. Opportunities to render services to the University and surrounding community.

Mission

The Physics Department is one of the six departments of the Faculty of Science at Mansoura University. The department works in coherence with the mission of the Faculty of Science and the university. The Physics Department seeks to provide high quality education for undergraduate and graduate physics majors, as well as high quality service courses in physics to other university academic programs. The department is dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of the discipline of physics through strong academic and research programs, capable to compete nationally and internationally. The Physics Department also seeks to establish strong ties with the community and other institutions of the country by enhancing the contribution of the department to the development of society.

Our strategic objective aims to:
